You can quit smoking! Many mobile apps have been developed to help smokers quit and, as smartphones continue to gain mobile market share, their audience grows. “Smokers tend to be from a lower socio-economic background, and those people might not have smartphones,” said Glynn. “But as smartphones and the apps reach more people, there is an even greater potential to supplement a quitting strategy.”
Science-based apps that follow guidelines put forth by national organizations are the most effective, said Glynn. Plenty of other apps out there can help design a plan to quit, distract quitters from cravings, or calculate the amount of money saved by abstaining. “We’re all motivated by economics,” he said.
