Are you ready to go traveling with the kids? Amtrak is celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a Kids Ride Free Fare Promotion. The travel deal offers families free train travel for children, ages 2 to 15, for 40 days between May 1 and June 9, 2011 with an adult who purchases a regular adult rail fare. This is a great way to get children excited about taking a train ride and traveling in something other than the back of an SUV. With Kids Ride Free, you get one free child’s ticket (ages 2 to 15) for each adult ticket purchased. Reservations for this deal, which applies only to coach seats, must be made at least three days before traveling. Amtrak says its offer is valid for coach tickets only. Reservations must be made in advance before May 6, 2011 and a minimum of three days prior to travel. The deal is valid for coach seats only based on availability & certain restrictions apply.
Another way Amtrak is marking its anniversary is with the Exhibit Train, a traveling display showcasing the railroad’s history. This free exhibit highlights Amtrak history with memorabilia including vintage advertising, dinnerware and period uniforms. The Amtrak Exhibit Train will touring the U.S. debuting at the National Train Day event in Washington, D.C., on May 7, 2011.
