Half-priced wireless Internet access is available at Chicago O’Hare and Midway airports through mid-October. Starting immediately, Internet access via Boingo will cost $3.48 for 24 hours because of a special offer by Google. The regular rate is $6.95. The catch is that users will have to watch a 30-second video sponsored by Google before gaining access. Google is offsetting the cost by reimbursing Boingo. Revenue to the airports from Wi-Fi service will be unaffected.
The half-price offer runs through Oct. 15. The aviation department is still trying to negotiate open and free Wi-Fi with Boingo, a spokeswoman said. If it is cannot, it will launch a portal that will allow restricted free Internet access to select websites and pages.
