Right now, Barnes & Noble is giving customers a Free Nook at BarnesandNoble.com! when they purchase a one-year subscription to People or the New York Times, a limited-time offer–good through March 9–that’s also one of the first major attempts to piggyback e-readers onto magazine or newspaper subscriptions.

“We’re continuing to make it easier than ever for customers to get more out of their Nook device,” Jonathan Shar, vice president and general manager of digital newsstand at Barnes & Noble, said in a press release. “And we are excited to offer our most popular content and leading devices at an amazing value.”
Typically, a black-and-white Nook Simple Touch costs $99, a Nook Color is $199 and a Nook Table is $249. When customers buy a one-year subscription to People ($9.99 per month), they can purchase the Nook Tablet for the discounted price of $199. When customers subscribe to The New York Times ($19.99 per month), they get a Nook Simple Touch for free or a Nook Color for $99.
