Right now, you can get a free app called OfficeDrop from the Apple App Store that will transform your iPhone into a basic scanner and its corresponding software — and then some. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you will have to sign up for an OfficeDrop account — you just need to provide your email address and create a username/password combo. Once that’s out of the way though, you’ll be all set to go. OfficeDrop is the best way to scan, search, organize and store your paper files, PDFs and other documents. Now available on the iPhone! Bring the iPhone experience to all of your paper documents by scanning to and accessing your OfficeDrop account from your iPhone! With OfficeDrop, you can easily scan, search, share, and manage paper and digital files from anywhere, anytime.
The iPad app allows for connecting to your OfficeDrop account. With the OfficeDrop iPad app, you can easily search, share, and manage paper and digital files from anywhere, anytime. Note that scanning is not yet available on the iPad, but it is coming soon. You’ll be able to snap photos of documents using the app, import images from your Camera Roll, or open documents already uploaded to your OfficeDrop account. As soon as they’ve passed through OfficeDrop’s system, those images will be turned into PDF files and parsed by OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology to become fully searchable. While the OfficeDrop app is free, the associated service is limited. You’ll get 1 GB of storage, 50 pages of text-searchable scans per month, and see the top three search results for your queries. In order to get more storage and features, you’ll have to sign up for one of the paid versions of the service — which start at $9.99/month.
